When the leaves fall from the trees, gingerbread and cinnamon stars appear on the supermarket shelves and the winter coat is pulled out of the wardrobe, it's also time to switch your skincare routine to "winter". The falling temperatures are hard on our skin, but there are a number of tips and tricks on how we can still get through the cold season looking radiant.

Cold affects the skin
When it gets colder outside, the skin can quickly become pale and cracked or tend to flake.

The reason? The cold causes less fat to be produced in the sebaceous glands. As the blood vessels also shrink, the skin is less well supplied with blood.

The result? The skin's protective function is reduced and it becomes more susceptible to external influences. The temperature differences between heated indoor spaces and icy winds on the street are an additional strain on the skin.

The solution? The skin must be supplied with plenty of moisture.

Pay attention to individual needs
There is no one-size-fits-all recipe for the perfect winter skincare routine, as each person's skin is affected differently by the cold. If you are unsure, ask a dermatologist or cosmetician which skincare routine is right for you.

However, one thing applies to everyone: using intensive moisturizer in the morning and evening supports the skin's natural protective function and can prevent rough skin. In winter, you can give your skin a little more time and a little richer care.

The basics of winter skin care
Which care for what
In winter, use pH-neutral soaps and cleansing gels (e.g. [W]ASH AWAY Purifying Gel Cleanser) and make sure that the water is not too hot so as not to dry out the skin even more. After showering, be sure to apply a moisturizer. Lips benefit from natural and rich care, e.g. based on beeswax or shea butter (e.g. SHE[A] RAW - enriched shea cream), and your hands are best treated several times a day with a moisturizing lotion containing oil.

UV protection
You should never do without sun protection, even in winter. It is an important factor in the prevention of skin cancer and early signs of skin ageing.

Amount
Do not use too much cream or gel, otherwise the skin may be overwhelmed with absorption. Instead, apply less cream and reapply if necessary.

Ingredients
Oily creams are ideal in winter. This applies equally to the face and body. However, especially if your skin is prone to blemishes, you shouldn't skip your usual cleansing and facial care routine in winter and shouldn't overburden your skin with too many new ingredients.

In general, products with urea or glycerine are ideal because they provide a lot of moisture. However, it is particularly important in winter not to impair the skin's protective function with an excessive amount of colorants, fragrances or even alcohol in your skincare products. Therefore, opt for products that contain less than 1% fragrance, like our creams.

It's time for special treatments
Shorter and less intense sun exposure does not only have disadvantages. This is the perfect time for certain facial treatments. So use the winter months for, among other things:

You can also support your skin with a healthy diet, sufficient hydration and happiness hormones, which are released during sport, for example. Moisturizing masks for the face and hair, oil baths for the hands and facials to support the body's own protective function are ideal now.
