Is it worth the effort?
We all know the feeling: skin is dull, dry, and marked by the stresses of everyday life. It needs a special treat to give it some much-needed pampering. What can help? A relaxing bath, a face mask, and plenty of sleep. The DIY trend is becoming increasingly popular. Thousands of recipes for seemingly highly effective face and body masks are circulating on social media. Yes, some of these masks have a cooling effect and make pores appear smaller. However, these masks don't actually help with blemishes or dryness. Unfortunately, they're not a miracle cure for lack of radiance either. No matter which ingredients you choose for your DIY mask, there's one key problem: the active ingredients are only present in very small quantities.
How does the active ingredient get into the mask?
For a mask to do exactly what it's supposed to - moisturize the skin, remove impurities, give a radiant complexion, etc. - it needs a high concentration of active ingredients, and we simply can't achieve that in a homemade mask, no matter how hard we try. Closer examination confirms this: compared to high-quality professional products, DIY masks show significantly lower percentages of active ingredients. The reason is that we lack the means to extract active ingredients in our own kitchens. Only in extracted form can even a relatively small amount have a significant effect.
Wellness or effect
Homemade face masks are definitely not a bad idea. The wellness effect shouldn't be underestimated. So, if you're primarily looking for relaxation, a DIY mask will certainly achieve the desired effect. However, if you're more interested in the targeted effects of the mask on your skin than your mood, then you should opt for professional products. We recommend not skimping on quality, but paying attention to the ingredients. A €1.50 mask from the drugstore is more of a wellness product. For greater effectiveness, choose high-quality, highly concentrated ingredients that are specifically tailored to your skin's needs. Then all you have to do is "apply and relax"-for wellness and results at the same time.
