It's mid-February, the perfect time to reflect on the first few weeks of the year. Have you kept your New Year's resolutions so far, or are you finding it difficult to eat healthier, exercise more, or spend more time in nature? Yes? Then you're like most of us. Studies show that very few people actually manage to achieve their resolutions. We'll show you how it can still work in 2022.

Be specific
Resolutions are ultimately nothing more than goals. And these must be set as specifically as possible to be most achievable. So, if you want to do something good for yourself in 2020 by making a few changes here and there, you should approach it wisely. Let's take exercise as an example: you should think carefully about what kind of exercise you want to do, how often per week, and by when exactly you want to achieve what. It could sound something like this: "I want to go jogging three times a week after work and be able to run 10km without stopping after three months."

It's about you
Often, resolutions stem from the wrong motivations. There are agreements with friends, societal pressure, or even the desire to please someone. None of that is inherently bad, but who does the respective resolutions actually benefit? When it comes to perseverance, there's always a kind of obligation to others. But new routines should benefit you! Resolutions-whether for the new year or any other time-are about self-care, about you alone! Therefore, it's important to formulate your resolutions in a way that highlights your individual benefit. You should clearly visualize the attractive advantages for yourself. For our exercise example, this could look something like this: "If I go jogging three times a week, I'll have more energy, be more satisfied overall thanks to the endorphins, have a healthier body through regular exercise, and have more radiant skin because of the fresh air." That sounds wonderful, doesn't it?

Reflect regularly
If you haven't quite managed to practice more self-care this year, there's no need to get discouraged. Reframe your goals, make them more specific, and consider the benefits of sticking to them. We also recommend taking a short weekly reflection. Looking at what you accomplished or missed out on last week will give you a good starting point for planning the week ahead. There's no shame in adapting your approach. As long as you stay true to yourself and prioritize self-care in all your decisions, anything goes.
